The Smithville Recycling Center is sponsored by the Mid-America Regional Council and the City of Smithville. The Recycling Center is staffed exclusively by volunteers. You can help by volunteering to work one 40-hour shift or volunteering an evening to work the phone bank. To volunteer, call 532-3754
Newspaper
Newspaper and newsprint. Remove string, plastic and tape. Remove manufacturers’ clip-out coupons and recycle with magazines. For easiest handling, place in a paper grocery bag.
Mixed office paper
Office paper, stationary including fax-telex, receipts, file folders. Any envelope except manilla. Mail: letters, pamphlets, brochures, ads, greeting cards, utility bills, etc. Miscellaneous: posters, triplicate forms, soft-covered books with white pages up to one inch thick. No carbon paper or tissue products. No mailing labels, spirals or rubber bands. Staples and paper clips are ok.
Glass
Food or beverage containers only. Separate glass by color: brown, green, and clear. Tinted glass belongs with colored glass. Remove all lids, metal neck rings and lead wine bottle seals. Honey and canning jars will be reused please set aside at the center.
Plastic
Many #1 and #2 plastic bottles and jars (must have a neck). Please rinse, remove lids and metal rings. No containers that held toxins (drain cleaner, etc.) can be accepted.
Toner and Ink jet cartridges
Please return in original packaging when possible
Magazines
Magazines and catalogs with shiny pages throughout.
Cans
Food and beverage cans only. All cans my be mixed together. Paper labels may stay. Please rinse and if possible, flatten.
Aluminum foil products
Clean foil products (pie pans, roasting pans, foil). Please keep separate from cans.
Corrugated cardboard
Corrugated cardboard with a flat finish and paper grocery bags only. Normal amounts of tape and staples allowed. Please flatten all boxes, fold and save clean paper bags for Goodwill.

HOUSEHOLD HAZARDOUS WASTE
Smithville will host a household hazardous waste drop off on Satuday, September 11, 2010 at the City Hall parking lot. ONLY the following items will be accepted: antifreeze, batteries, oil and paint. There will be a limit of 180 vehicles.
