This department is responsible for all aspects of land use regulation contained in the City of Smithville`s codes. The Community Development Director, Jack Hendrix is also the Planning Director. The Planning and Zoning Commission began work on a completely new Zoning Ordinance in 2010, and made its' final recommendations to the Board of Aldermen at its March 7, 2013 meeting. On April 2, 2013, the Board of Aldermen passed the recommended Zoning Code. The Planning and Zoning Commission holds its meetings at 7:00 p.m., on the first Thursday of each month in the Board Chambers, accessible from the rear of City Hall.
All applications for rezoning, annexation, subdivision plats, special use permits, variances and site plan review applications should be submitted to the Community Development office at 107 W. Main, Smithville, MO 64089. Prior to filing any application, it is recommended that you meet with the Planning Director beforehand to determine which application(s) will be required.
