Applying for a Occupational License

  • The City of Smithville requires Occupation Licenses for all businesses located in the City Limits, or for businesses performing work in the City Limits. 
  • All new businesses must submit a completed application prior to commencing operations. 
  • All existing businesses will be sent a renewal application and must complete that application and submit all the required documentation including a "no tax due" statement.

Occupational License Fees

Occupation Licenses are valid from December 1st each year to the following November 30th.  The fees for the initial license are as follows and can be located in the City's most current Schedule of Fees Listing.

  • $75.00 for applications received between December 1st and February 28th.
  • $50.00 for applications received between March 1st and May 31st.
  • $25.00 for applications received after May 31st.

For all license renewals, the license fee is $75.00. All license taxes or fees required shall be due and payable on the first day of December of each year and shall be delinquent on the 31st day of December each year. A late payment fee equal to ten percent (10%) of the required fee shall also be required for all payments received after the due date and shall additionally accrue additional penalties in the amount of one percent (1%) per month for each month or part thereof for payments received after such fees become delinquent.Please contact City Hall at 532-3897 if you do not receive a renewal form. . 

Master's License or Certification

If the business is a plumbing, electrical, or mechanical contractor, the applicant shall also provide a copy of a valid master's license issued by any City that proctors a nationally recognized exam for such purpose prior to the issuance or such master's license.
