About GIS
The City of Smithville has completed a Geographic Information System (GIS) for public and internal use. GIS is a system that creates, manages, analyzes, and maps all types of data. The City's internal GIS houses our the sewer, water, street and stormwater infrastructure. The platform will be used for maintenance planning, capital improvement planning, assist with development, budgeting, infrastructure condition, modeling and system analysis, traffic management, work order system, snow operations, and emergency services.

Project Details
The City of Smithville hired Surveying And Mapping (SAM), LLC to survey and map the City’s utility systems. This generally consists of locating utility features with global positioning system (GPS) equipment, and entering the data into a map platform. They began this work in February 2022 and was completed in September 2022. Staff made final adjustments and received training in October 2022 on the platform. SAM will continue to host the GIS website for the City of Smithville, MO.
