Public Works is the combination of physical assets, management practices, policies, and personnel necessary for government to provide and maintain structures and services essential to the welfare and acceptable quality of life for The City of Smithville.
The Public Works Department is responsible for guiding the community’s development and maintenance through its various divisions:
Public Works administrative staff include the Public Works Director and the Assistant to the Public Works Director.
Streets Division
The Streets Division is responsible for street, sidewalk maintenance and repair, as well as severe weather response. The Street staff includes the following:
- Street Superintendent
- Street Crew Leader
- Administrative Assistant
- Street Maintenance Crew
- Engineering Technician
Utilities Division
The Utilities Division is responsible for the provision of water and sanitary sewer services for the City of Smithville. Water is treated at the City's Water Plant and wastewater is treated at the City's Wastewater Plant. The Utilities staff includes the following:

- Wastewater Manager
- Water Manager
- Administrative Assistant
- Plant Operators
- Engineering Technician
