The Water & Sewer department provides water and sanitary sewer services for the City of Smithville. The department consists of three divisions: the water plant, the wastewater plant, and the distribution crew.
Water Plant & Water Staffing Facts
- The Water Plant has capacity to process up to 2.5 million gallons of water each day.
- Water is sourced directly from Smithville Lake and is treated, tested, and pumped out to our four water towers where it waits to be utilized.
- The Water Plant operates seven days-a-week, including all holidays, from 7:00 AM to 11:00 PM.
Wastewater Plant & Wastewater Staffing Facts
- The Wastewater Plant has capacity to process up to 1.25 million gallons of wastewater each day.
- The Wastewater Plant receives wastewater from 33 lift stations located throughout the City.
- The Wastewater Plant operates Monday through Friday, from 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM.
- The wastewater distribution crew is responsible for maintaining all water mains, sewer mains, and the 33 lift stations. They also do day-to-day work orders to assist utility customers. The wastewater distribution crew operates Monday through Friday, from 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM.

Report an Outage or Backup
To report low water pressure, a water outage, or a sewer backup, please contact the Water Plant at (816) 532-0577 immediately. If there is no answer, call City Hall at 816-532-3897 if during the hours of 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday.
We have Water Department staff on-call seven days-a-week, 365 days-a-year for emergency calls. Should an emergency arise after hours or if you can not reach anyone at the numbers above, please call Platte County Dispatch at (816) 858-3521. They will call a Smithville police officer who will get in touch with someone.
Water Quality Reports (Consumer Confidence Report)
Annually, the City provides a Water Quality Report (Consumer Confidence Report) to its consumers. The report is intended to provide you with important information about your drinking water and the efforts made to provide safe drinking water. The report is provided from Missouri Department of Natural Resources.
