Strategic Planning
About the Process
The City of Smithville embarked upon a new strategic planning process in 2019. The City contracted Future iQ to guide a Community Vision and Strategic Action Plan process for the community. The goal of this project was to create a vision that represents the whole community, reflects core community values address emerging trends and issues, imagines a preferred future, and promotes local action.
During the process there were many opportunities for involvement, including a Future Think Tank Workshop, community surveys, youth sessions, and a strategic planning community celebration. Data from these engagements can be found on the project website.
Community Vision
The Vision is to create "Smithville - a modern community oasis designed for 2030." The Community Strategic Action Plan directs efforts and resources toward the defined vision for the future employing a roadmap that is realistic, achievable and sustainable.
The key strategic pillars that support this vision include:
- Continued Commitment to Education
- Enhanced Recreation and Connectivity
- Diverse Housing and Neighborhood Options
- Strengthened Business and Economic Development
- Retention of Small-Town Feel and Sense of Community
Final Report
The Board of Aldermen adopted the strategic plan in November 2019.
