On Tuesday, the Board of Aldermen met in Regular Session and took the following actions:- Approved the July 15, 2025, Board of Aldermen Work Session Minutes
- Approved the July 15, 2025, Board of Aldermen Regular Session Minutes
- Approved a Resolution issuing a temporary liquor license to Chop’s BBQ and Catering for the Jimmie’s Miles for Medals Charity Ride to be held Saturday, August 16, 2025.
- Approved a Resolution acknowledging the Board of Aldermen’s support of an application for the Senior Center grant through Clay County Senior Services.
- Approved on second reading an Ordinance changing the zoning classifications or districts of certain lands located in the City of Smithville, Missouri.
- Approved on first and second reading an Ordinance amending the FY2025 Budget to add $4,500 to the General Fund and $32,782 to the Combined Water and Wastewater Fund expenditure budget.
- Approved on second reading an Ordinance annexing certain adjacent territory into the City of Smithville, Missouri. 1st reading by title only.
- Approved a Resolution authorizing and directing the Mayor to execute an agreement with Janet Terry and Chris Dunkin for Camp Host Services.
- Approved a Resolution awarding Bid No. 25-11 to Foster Trenching and Contracting Inc. for the Church Street and Mill Street watermain project in the amount of $133,938, with an additional $10,000 force account, for a total project cost not to exceed $143,938.
- Approved a Resolution acknowledging the Emergency Purchase of Variable Speed Drives (VFD’s) for the influent pump station at the wastewater treatment plant.

Smithville Receives Distinguished Budget Presentation Award
The City of Smithville has received the Government Finance Officers Association’s (GFOA) Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for its 2024 budget, marking the sixth consecutive year the City has earned this recognition. The award reflects our ongoing commitment to transparency, accountability, and excellence in financial reporting. Special thanks to our Finance Department for their collaborative efforts in achieving this honor.

- Town Hall Meeting was held 8/6. Nominations were made for the open Senior Center Board positions of President, Secretary, and Member at Large. Elections will be held 8/20.
- Nine people took part in the third class of Cooking Matters and made some delicious, healthy and budget-friendly recipes: black bean veggie quesadillas, fruit and yogurt parfaits, and whole grain orange salad.
- Commercial Ave Sidewalk: the contractor originally awarded the Commercial Avenue Pedestrian Project has informed the City they are ceasing operations and will not be able to complete the work. The City is coordinating with the contractor, their bonding company, and MoDOT to determine next steps and ensure the project continues moving forward. Additional updates will be shared as more information becomes available.
- Water Treatment Plant Improvements: ongoing
- 144th Pump Station and West Bypass project: construction began on June 2, work in progress along 144th St near the pump station.
- Sidewalk Replacement Program (Harborview): in progress
- Diamond Crest Park Parking Lot: delayed due to water leak
- Basin Maintenance Program: implementation began last month
- Street Maintenance Program: Awarded to Asphaltic Surfaces. Location: Commercial Avenue (From 92 HWY to Meadow St). Work will begin after completion of Commercial Sidewalk Project.
Maintenance Updates
- Parks
- Lined and painted football and soccer fields.
- Brush hog and finishing mowing
- Mowing all parks
- Installed Heritage Park entrance gates
- Passed Corps of Engineers facility inspection
- Streets
- Equipment Maintenance & Organization: cleaned vehicles and maintenance facilities, repaired backhoe
- Mowing & Vegetation Control: Crews mowed around Wildflower Pond, 188th Street, Helvey Lake, Liberty Street, and Liberty Road; continued roadside mowing citywide; and cleared brush and logs near the Amory Road bridge.
- Concrete & Sidewalk Work: Sidewalk forms were removed and joints cut on Essex Drive; topsoil, seed, and straw were placed at six Harbor View locations; five curb locations were excavated and jackhammered on Commercial Street; and curbs were formed and prepped for concrete pouring.
- Storm Drainage Maintenance: Repairs were made to a storm box at 203 Doubletree Lane; limbs were cleared from the storm box at 14603 Killarney Lane; gravel was cleared from the driveway entrance at 825 Amory Road.
- Street Repairs: potholes were filled on East Summit Street, Highland Drive, and at 404 Highland Drive
- Utilities
- Total Drinking Water Production 7,844,000 gal
- Treated 7,375,000 gallons of wastewater
- Completed 26 work orders and 79 locates
- Completed all testing required at the WTP and WWTP
- Ace Pipe arrived on Monday to complete the bypass pumping and cleaning of the influent pump station. They anticipate completing the work by Friday. Staff performed lockout/tagout procedures on all pumps at the influent station to ensure safety during the work.
- Staff removed Pump #1 at the Marina Court lift station due to excessive run times. The pump has since been repaired and is now operating as expected.
- Mid America Pump was called to the wastewater treatment plant to troubleshoot SBR Blower 3A. The motor was found to be inoperable and a replacement has been ordered
