The City of Smithville is accepting applications for the position of Police Captain with the Smithville Police Department. Please review the full job description here. 

The Police Captain is a key command-level leadership position responsible for assisting the Chief of Police with the overall administration, supervision, and operation of the police department. The department is seeking candidates who demonstrate sound judgment, strong leadership, professionalism, accountability, and the ability to develop staff and support a positive organizational culture.

The City anticipates filling two Police Captain positions. One position will primarily oversee Patrol operations, and the other will primarily oversee Support Services. However, candidates should be prepared to serve in either assignment based on the needs of the department. Captains may also be required to serve as acting chief in the absence of the Chief of Police.

The successful candidate will be expected to lead with integrity, hold supervisors accountable, communicate effectively, support officer development, manage conflict professionally, and assist with long-term planning for the department.

Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice, Public Administration, Management, or a related field is preferred, or an equivalent combination of relevant education, training, and progressively responsible law enforcement experience.

Management-level program completion through the FBI National Academy or an equivalent program is preferred.

Candidates must have at least eight years of law enforcement experience. Three years of supervisory experience is preferred.

Candidates must meet eligibility requirements established by the State of Missouri in accordance with Department of Public Safety Peace Officer Standards and Training requirements, including being 21 years of age or older, a United States citizen, and having no disqualifying criminal history under applicable Missouri law.

Compensation

$95,000 - $118,679.55 annually depending on qualifications.
