Community Engagement Updates
  • We officially broke ground on the OK Railroad Trail, marking the beginning of construction on a project identified as a top priority in the Parks and Recreation Master Plan. Staff was successful at securing funding through the Missouri Department of Natural Resources Recreational Trails Program (RTP), allowing this important community project to move forward. OK Railroad Trail – Phase I includes the rehabilitation of 2,230 linear feet of a 10‑foot‑wide concrete trail, along with an adjacent 4‑foot‑wide lime‑screen running trail. Planned amenities include two benches, a water bottle filling station, a pedestrian counter, trail signage, landscaping and two butterfly gardens, enhancing accessibility, recreation, and environmental stewardship. This project is funded in part by the Recreational Trails Program (RTP), a federally funded assistance program authorized by the U.S. Congress through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (BIL), enacted as the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA).

Police Department Updates
  • Friendly reminder, please do not put trash or used needles, syringes or other sharps in the Prescription Drug Drop Box at Smithville City Hall.
  • Officers conducted Defensive Tactics “DT” training tonight. Thank you to Deputy Mendoza for coming over and hosting the training for our department.
Senior Center Updates
  • We welcomed 90 people through the Senior Center doors Monday for a full day of fitness, food (fried chicken), and fun (birthday party)!
  • Worked on planning the May calendar and events for Older American Month

Maintenance Updates

  • Parks
    • Fixed a water leak at the campground
    • Mowed all parks
    • Started construction on OK Trail
  • Streets
    • Street sweeping at Stonebridge and Cedar Lakes
    • Greased and checked all fluids on skid loader and backhoe 
    • Cleared limbs at Amory bridge and Martin Rd bridge 
    • Culvert replacement at 180th and Marcus Rd, 304 NE144th St culvert extension 
    • Culvert repair in Wildflower
    • Inspected sink hole at Fletcher and Amesbury 
    • Used the utility division's camera and found damaged storm drain that will need repaired 
    • Set up barricades for street closures on Commercial for water line repair 
    • Filled potholes at Lake Meadows entrance at 169 
    • Painted multiple storm box openings in the downtown area 
    • Hauled approximately 38 tons of gravel to the water treatment plant 
    • Had sweeper air conditioning repaired
  • Utilities
    • Total Drinking Water Production 6,626,000 gal.
    • Completed all testing required at the WTP.
    • Conducted weekly chemical level checks at the WTP for ordering.
    • Backwashed filters 1,2,3,4 and 5 at the WTP.
    • Started project high service pump room rehabilitation at the WTP.
    • Started project ground cover at the WTP.
    • Southwest tower is painted. Waiting for Bac-T results to put back on-line.
    • Completed 17 work orders
    • 69 locates completed
    • Completed 1 new water service connections.
    • Completed all testing required at WWTP
    • Treated 5,898,000 gallons of wastewater
    • Completed weekly checks of all booster station and towers in the distribution system.
    • Repaired pump #2 at Quail Ridge Lift Station.
    • Staff repaired a water main break at 652 South Commercial.
    • Staff replaced the ball check and rebuilt vacuum prime system on pump #1 at Hills of Shannon lift station.
    • Collected the monthly sample and weekly E-Coli samples at the WWTP.
    • Completed grounds maintenance at the WWTP.
    • Completed grounds maintenance at the North and South water towers.
    • Collected wastewater reports for EPA.
