Did You Know - Keep Your Pets Safe in the Summer Heat

AKeep Your Pets Safe in the Summer Heats temperatures rise, it’s important to remember that our pets are much more vulnerable to heat than we are. Follow these simple tips to help keep your furry family members safe and comfortable during the summer months:

  • Always provide plenty of fresh water to prevent dehydration.
  • Never leave pets in parked cars — even for a few minutes. Temperatures inside a vehicle can climb dangerously high in no time, even with the windows cracked. It’s safest to leave your pets at home.
  • Limit outdoor time, especially during the hottest part of the day. Early mornings and late evenings are the best times for walks or playtime.
  • Make sure they have access to plenty of shade if they are outside and remember: dog houses often trap heat and may not provide adequate relief. The best place for your pet during extreme heat is inside, in air conditioning if possible.
  • Be mindful of hot pavement. Asphalt and concrete can reach scorching temperatures and burn your dog’s paw pads. If the ground feels too hot for your bare hand, it’s too hot for their paws — stick to grassy areas when walking in the heat.
  • Understand how dogs cool themselves. Unlike humans, dogs

don’t sweat. They rely on panting to regulate their body

temperature, which is much less effective in humid conditions.

By taking these precautions, you can help ensure your pets stay

healthy and happy all summer long.
