Community Engagement Updates
  • Want to learn more about how your City works? The City of Smithville is hosting a series of Community Conversations: Your City, Up Close sessions designed to give residents a behind-the-scenes look at City operations and facilities. The first session will feature a tour of the City’s water and wastewater facilities. Participants will learn how these systems work, how they are funded, and have opportunities to ask questions along the way. The session will be held on  October 17 from 9 a.m. to noon. Transportation will be provided for the tours. Advance registration is required, and participation is limited on a first-come, first-served basis. Learn more and register: smithvillemo.org/cityupclose

Senior Services Updates 

  • Thanks to Three Rivers Hospice for partnering with us every month and hosting fun activities. Everyone loved playing Mystery Bag on Wednesday. There were a lot of laughs!
  • October lunch menu and activities calendar is out. We’re looking forward to several new delicious menu items!
  • Also NEW in October: Playing Mexican Train Dominoes on Tuesdays before lunch. Join us for this fun and easy game!

  • Parks
    • Repaired a leak at the Smiths Fork Campground
    • Mowed all parks
    • Painted soccer and football fields
    • Hung banners for upcoming special events
    • Replaced ceiling light in development office
    • Repaired Activity Center BBQ grille
    • Repaired exhaust fan in City Hall restroom
    • Spread 20 yards of mulch
    • Hauled 4 yards of black dirt to campground for site 60
    Streets
    • Replaced quick attach wire on skid loader
    • Pumped water out of street repair patch on Park Dr. to prepare for concrete
    • Poured 10 yards of concrete in street repair patch on Park Dr
    • Dug out approximately 65’x14’ street patch on Park Dr
    • Ordered drainpipe for culvert replacement on 144th St and Hospital Dr
    • Completed MPR Training for Work Zone Traffic Control and Snow and Ice Management
    • Hauled approximately 18 tons of AB3 to 144th St and Fairview Dr. to make a temporary access road for residents on 144th St for culvert replacement
    • Hauled 5 loads of recycled asphalt millings to 144th St to fill in edges of road that have washed out
    • Poured 23 yards of concrete for 65’x14’ patch on Park Dr
  • Utilities
    • Total Drinking Water Production 7,494,000 gal
    • Completed all testing required at the WTP
    • Staff completed ground maintenance at WTP and water towers 
    • Conducted weekly chemical level checks at the WTP for ordering
    • Backwashed filters 1,2,3,4 and 5 at the WTP
    • Completed grounds maintenance at the WTP
    • Installed new plug and SCADA wires to the pipe gallery
    • Contractors installed a new door in the filter room
    • Painted the transfer pumps at the WTP
    • Installed door triggers on the chemical building
    • Cleaned the walls on filter #2 and #3 at the WTP
    • Working on a new Bac’t sampling site plan
    • Completed 21 work orders
    • 55 locates completed
    • Completed all testing required at WWTP
    • Staff completed ground maintenance at WWTP/Pump Stations
    • Treated 6,091,000 gallons of wastewater
    • Completed weekly checks of all booster station and towers in the distribution system.
    • Collected and delivered 3 E-coli samples to the KCMO laboratory
    • Changed out 41 radio transmitters for the automatic meter read system
    • Staff replaced the excess flow basin level transducer at the WWTP influent pump station
    • Completed monthly disconnects for non-payment
    • Staff completed bi-weekly lift station checks and maintenance
