Did You Know - Keep Leaves Out Of The Street

Leaves out of the street

Leaves can block storm drains. If you watch a storm drain inlet covered in leaves during a rainstorm, it only takes a few leaves to back up the water into a large puddle. This creates nuisance flooding and can potentially cause a safety hazard.

Water quality can also be affected by the accumulation of decayed leaves in storm drains.

Smithville City Code requires that you rake or blow the leaves back into your property and properly dispose of them.

Yard waste pick up is included in the City’s residential solid waste contract with GFL. Residents may “opt-in” to the curbside yard waste collection by contacting GFL at (816) 380-5595.
