Senior Center Updates

  • Seniors attended Emergency Preparedness for Seniors presentation by AmeriCorp. (photo)
  • Next week: Senior Center will be closed on Memorial day.
  • The Senior Center is having a big celebration on May 29 for Older Americans Month starting at 9AM. Free health screenings from NKC Hospital, door prizes, trivia contest, bingo, hamburger/hotdog cookout, play corn hole, & karaoke!

Police Department Updates

  • A sergeant from the department attended less-lethal instructor school this week and will take the lead in conducting less-lethal training moving forward.
  • Another sergeant provided De-Escalation training as part of the Critical Incident Training attended by officers from the Northland area.

Project Updates

  • Commercial St Sidewalk: construction beginning in June 2025. 
  • 144th Pump Station and West Bypass project: Construction beginning in June 2025
  • Sewer Rehabilitation Program: Slipline began in April and will be completed in the next couple of weeks.
  • Sidewalk Replacement Program (Harborview): Summer 2025. Notification letters have been sent to property owners in areas identified by the City as having hazardous sidewalks.

Maintenance Updates 

  • Water Plant Division 
    • Produced 8,073,000 gallons of water for the week
    • Annual 2024 Annual Water Quality Report (CCR Report) completed and submitted to DNR. CCR report is available on the City website 
    • Supplies for the water plant upgrades have arrived on-site. Ross Construction, P1 Plumbing, AK Hangley Electrical, and RW Vaught for SCADA will now proceed with the scheduled improvements.
    • A Velodyne field technician was on-site to troubleshoot and repair an issue with the lime feeder.
    • Monthly regulatory distribution sampling and weekly taste and odor sampling completed and sent to labs.  
  • Wastewater / Operations Division
    • Treated 6,618,000 gallons of wastewater 
    • Completed 18 work orders and 52 locates
    • Completed two 1” water service taps.
    • Restored three yards on East Meadow following the relocation of 120 feet of water main, including seeding and straw placement.
    • Cleaned manhole on Lora Street that had a large grease build-up.
  • Streets Division
    • Continued crack sealing in Harborview, completed sections of Newport Dr and Amesbury Dr, and addressed cracks around storm boxes on Summit St and Amesbury Dr.
    • Mowed riverbanks, city properties, and roadway intersections; brush hogged areas along Second Creek Rd and Old Jefferson Hwy.
    • Filled potholes at various locations with cold mix, including Village Ln, Old Jefferson Hwy, and Kindred Dr.
    • Repaired and straightened stop signs and an arrow sign at multiple intersections, including Bridge St/Main St and 180th/Old Jefferson Hwy.
    • Poured new curbs on Owens, Maple Cir, and E Meadow, and applied concrete cure to all poured areas.
    • Cleaned out a storm sewer and removed debris from the bottom of the box on E Meadow.
    • Removed tree debris from 188th St and sprayed weeds around guardrails and signage near Second Creek and Amory.
  • Park Maintenance
    • Much needed shade structures were added to the Diamond Crest Splash Pad. New mulch was added to trees and landscaping around the park as well.
