About Megan's Paws and Claws
Megan's Paws and Claws was created when the parents of Megan Elizabeth Kitchen started a memorial fund in her memory after she lost her life in a car crash at the young age of 17 on December 12, 2008.
Lori and Tom Kissinger say Megan loved animals and she often brought home stray animals to love and care for. The Smithville community helped bring Megan's fund to nearly $50,000 in monetary and in-kind donations and the Kissingers decided to donate the money raised to the City of Smithville for the construction of a new No-Kill dog pound.
The pound has 13 indoor/outdoor kennels with heating and air and a large play yard for the dogs.
Friends of Megan's Paws & Claws is a 501c3 that assists not only us, but the community with projects and events to help the pets of Smithville. They are not associated with the city. They created the community pet pantry which sits behind City Hall. The community is able to utilize the pantry any time they may need assistance for pet food or pet supplies. If you're looking for something in particular, you can reach them by sending them a message through their Facebook page.
